Miracle in the Pacific: the Polynesian Cultural Center, a new 184-page richly illustrated book published by Deseret Book of Salt Lake City, Utah, has captured the essence of Hawaii’s top visitor attraction, which celebrates its 50th anniversary throughout 2013.

Planning for Chevron’s Move and the New Laie Hotel

Lai’e residents will need to plan for a few changes in the neighborhood in coming months. The Lai’e Chevron gas station will be closing January 14, 2013 with plans to relocate to the L?i’e Shopping Center area.

The closing marks the beginning of the 7-month site cleaning process for gas station facilities, which is necessary to make way for the new L?i’e Hotel. Depending on the final site selection and permitting process, residents can expect at least a year of down time before the opening of the new station.

Iosepa Ready to Set Sail

Iosepa Community Summer Sail

The Iosepa, BYU–Hawaii’s voyaging canoe, is preparing to sail. Below is the revised schedule of events:
Friday, August 17- move from the Polynesian Cultural Center to Hukilau Beach and launch
Monday, August 20- shake-down sail to He’eia, Kaneohe
Tuesday, August 21- Kupuna sail, there will be two groups
Wednesday, August 22 to Tuesday, August 28- students sail to different ports on Oahu
Wednesday, August 29- community sail
Thursday, August 30- preparation to return the Iosepa to the Polynesian Cultural Center

Iosepa Shore Watch

The Iosepa needs constant watch while it is anchored at Laie Bay, both during the day, as well as in the evenings. Those willing to participate with shore watch while the Iosepa is at Laie Bay, please call 675-3266 or 675-3665.
